TEXAS SLOW NET   (TSN)

The Texas Slow Net (TSN) is a Section-level CW traffic net in the ARRL National Traffic System.   Louis House, KD5GM, is net manager.   Its purpose is to provide training, (at slower speeds of about 10-12 words per minute), in NTS CW traffic net procedures and methods, and traffic routing.   TSN has liaisons/reps to:   RN5/CAN, NTX, TEX, DFW, NETX, CTTN, a Digital rep handling traffic to or from the digital mode, and an ARES rep, representing the Amateur Radio Emergency Service, who can be from any section as a member of section, district, or local ARES.

GUIDE TO A NET SESSION

At 8 PM Central Time, the NCS sends the Preamble:

CQ TSN   CQ TSN DE (NCS' call)    TEXAS SLOW NET IS NOW OPEN BT

ALL STNS ARE WELCOME BT

QND    QNZ    V   V   V   QNN    (NCS' call) / (name) / (city, state))

TSN QNA RN5 REP K                 (for out-of-state traffic)

QNA TEX REP K                          (the Texas CW net)

QNA DFW REP K                         (the DFW local net)

        QNA ARES REP K

(As the various reps are called, they will send a letter of their call; the NCS will acknowledge them and find out if they have traffic.)   Now it is time for you to check in.   The NCS will make periodic net calls asking for others wanting to check in:

TSN TSN TSN DE __________ QNI     K

TSN TSN TSN DE __________ QNI     K

Listen for the QNI   K and send the first letter of your suffix.   The NCS will send it back to you, and from there, this is a sample exchange:

You:     GE DE (your call)   QRU (if no traffic)   K

NCS     GE or HLO (your call)    PSE   AS (Please stand by)

If you have traffic, you would send, GE DE (your call)   QTC (destination and number of messages)   example:   QTC AUSTIN 2

When the NCS is starts excusing stations, listen for your suffix, and respond with HR.

NCS:    TU (name and/or call) NW   QRU   QNX   73   K

You:     TU (name of NCS)    73   DE (your call)

That's all there is to it!   You've successfully checked into your first CW net!   Now the NCS makes a last call:

TSN LAST CALL   QNI   K

He then closes the net with the postamble

TSN MEETS DAILY   AT 8 PM CDT (CST) ON 3719   KHZ   ALL STNS   WELCOME

TSN   QNF   DE _________   SK

Refer to the pink "Amateur Message Form" FSD-218 for more details and abbreviations and a sample message.
